Being a member of the Family of God, which is both local and global; I would like to share specific issues about the adventure The Lord and I are on dealing with lung cancer. I want to do this so that those who are praying for me will be better informed.

The Storm if Over

Hello Dear Ones,
today I received a wonderful e-mail and here is the title: " Can You Sleep While The Wind Blows?"

The story was about a farmer who owned land along the Atlantic seacoast, and was having a hard time hiring help because of the awful storms that raged across the Atlantic.

However, he did come across a young chat that took the job. When the farmer asked him "Are you a good farm hand?" his respond was "Well, I can sleep when the wind blows."

One night the wind howled loudly in from offshore. Jumping out of bed, the farmer grabbed a lantern and rushed next door to the hired hand's sleeping quarters. He shook the little man and yelled, "Get up! A storm is coming! Tie things down before they blow away!"
THE MAN ROLLED OVER IN BED AND SAID FIRMLY, "No sir, I told you, I can sleep when the wind blows."

Enraged by the response, the farmer was tempted to fire him on the spot. Instead, he hurried outside to prepare for the storm.
To his amazement, he discoved that all of the haystacks had been covered with tarpaulins. The cows were in the barn. The shutters were tightly secured. Everything was tied down.
Nothing could blow away. The farmer then understood what his hired hand meant, so he returned to his bed to also sleep while the wind blew.

MORAL OF THIS STORY

When you're prepared, spiritually, mentally, and physically, you have nothing to fear. Can you sleep when the wind blows through your life?
The hired hand in the story was able to sleep because he "SECURED THE FARM AGAINST THE STORM.
We secure ourselves against the storms of life by grounding ourselves in the Word of God. We don't need to understand, we just need to hold His hand to have peace in the middle of storms.
THE END! ( I wish I was the author of this story, but I'm not)

Now I can't really say that I could sleep through the storm when my friend Hal was here. Remember I was his 24/7 primary care giver. So when the bell rang two or three times a night I could not sleep, I had to respond. BUT GUESS WHAT! Everytime I got up to answer the call, guess who was up with me, " You Know", Dear Jesus was right there with me. My friend Hal is home now. It has been a week today. He is doing far, but not as good as he should. He has no help at home. I JUST PRAY THAT SOMETHING HE HEARD OR SAW HERE AT OUR HOME WILL TUGG AT HIS HEART AND THAT HE WILL BE SAVED, THAT GOD WOULD HAVE MERCY AND SAVE HIM.
Please pray for his salvation.
"This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." (1Tim.2: 3-4)

Your Friend & Servant in the Lord,

Oraletta

P.S. My health is good at the present time.

Oraletta and Hal Update

Hello Everyone,
I am still here (what's left of me). Hal ( the 88yr. old gentleman I am caring for) had his rotator cuff surgery on his left shoulder on Aug.20th. I picked him up from University Hospital and he is still in my home.

The first week I thought I was going crazy. He rang the bell at least 3 times a night to go to the bath room. One night he did not ring the bell and fell in the bathroom ( Praise God he fell on his buttock and did not hurt his shoulder). Also Praise God Roosevelt was home and was able to get him up.

He is very hard headed and independent. He wants to do things his way, but he realize that I am not going to allow him to do the wrong thing ( if I can help it).

He went to the doctor on Aug.29th. and the doctor was pleased with how his shoulder is healing. He will go back on Sept. 12th. to get his stitches out.

He is eating much better than he was when he first came here. You know how it is with an 88yr. old man that lives alone. He has meals on wheels when he is home.

The Occupational Therapist & Physical Therapist (two different people), are really concerned about him going back home alone. You see he also has "Vertigo". He is always stumbling over his own feet. I am working on him going to his Internist and getting help with the vertigo. The medicine he is on is not helping. We have an appointment for Monday.

He is also a cancer survivor and has a Port a Cath so I took him to have that flushed yesterday.

He cannot hear at all and hates wearing his earring aides, however I insist that he wears them at least part of the day. He said he is glad that I am making him get use to them. He watches a lot of TV and it is "LOUD".

Ladies and Gentlemen I need your prayers. I just want Hal to see Christ in me and Roosevelt as we care for him in our home. I also need strength. He is sleeping better now. Oh yes! I used to put his food on the table and before I could get everything on the table he was eating. So now we are holding hands and saying the blessing. Now he knows that is the way we do it, so he puts his hand out and bows his hand.

Today was the first time I did any Biblical Counseling in a month. I had to clear my calendar. I took him to the Church with me and he sat on the couch in the commons. I got him a hot chocolate and he read the paper.

The therapist are trying to work with a Social Worker and get him help when he goes home (maybe in a couple weeks), He needs help around the clock. His home is 4 stores. He has fallen at least 5 times this year, and guess what? He thinks he can drive when the sutures come out.

Oh Well Dear Ones, I must go and put him to bed. He and I are really bonding. He says I remind him of his Mother when I say " Hal eat all of your food". I really think I will miss him when he goes home.

I am doing fine when it comes to my health. Just so happy to be "CARING FOR SOMEONE ELSE". Please pray for Hal's salvation.

Loving Each of You with the Love of Jesus,

Oraletta (Ps. 121: 1-2)
P.S. I went to Chicago (Aug. 30-Sept 2) with 5 other ladies. We had a great time and boy did I need it. Everytime I stopped I went to sleep. Our son-in-law (Michael helped Roosevelt take care of Hal.)
